The Z3 Couple is such a perfect car for me. I wish they were common and cheap. Unfortunately they are neither. This Non-M manual example is 11 grand, with 180,000 miles!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And from the description it’s not in immaculate condition either.

Kinja'd!!!

In reality if it weren’t for the rarity this would be a 3,000 dollar car. Just like any other high mileage z3. Damn supply and demand economics.

These used to be rarer than hens teeth. But now there’s loads of them, 107 of the Z3 and 18 of the Z3M.

Kinja'd!!!

There are Z3s starting at £500.

hmmm, IIRC the 1.9l motor not available in America. cheap 1.9l, ship to the states, motor swap, registration shenanigans. Perfect plan!

This is a sterling example of the upper midwest market. Semi-desirable car massively devalued and far from being in a desirable condition listed as if made of gold because it’s worth peanuts anywhere else. A condition that makes more sense 200 miles from anything, but raises ire in a major city.

Tl;dr - Ignore the price gouging attempt.  Make a reasonable offer you can come up from slightly if needed and walk away when they act insulted.  No stress, no argument, no passive-aggressive scene.

The cheapest are the 1.9's but there are inexpensive 2.0's, 2.6's and 3.0's to be had. There’ s some 3.0's that are still asking £11-16,000 but there are some good ones about the £5,000 mark.

Pretty sure we got the 1.9 as the only engine the first year in the states. I remember being a kid and reading that they took 9+ seconds to get to 60.

There are a few 3.0's going for less than £6,000.
